Kitchener Model Railway Club
Huge HO and N Scale Layouts

Overview of our Kitchener Model Train Club:
  • Looking for a Model Train club in Kitchener Ontario?  You have come to the right place!
  • Huge layout - lots of fun - relaxing atmosphere
  • You may have met us at the Kitchener Model Train Show - we also take part in the Kitchener / Waterloo Doubleheaders Tour
  • Regular club nights are Monday and Thursday nights from 7 until about 8:30
  • Once you are a member, you can visit the club any time between 7 am and 11 pm, 7 days a week
  • First month is free!  Just email and we will make arrangements to let you in and show you around!

What is the club like?
  • Run what you would like - any era, any type, any railroad - some people will run steam, most usually run diesel
  • Both HO and N scale - HO is about 16 feet wide by 60 feet long - 3 levels, with mainline of about 600 feet
  • N scale is about 16 feet by 30 feet
  • We use Digitrax DCC
How do I get started?
  • Just email us at [email protected]  to let us know you are interested.  We will make arrangements with you to let you in and show you around
  • If you have a locomotive, bring it along - or we can loan you one from the club so you can try it out
  • We can also loan you a DCC throttle controller - you don't need anything when you first come

I've never run a train before, or not in a long time, is it hard to learn?
  • It is pretty easy.  We have people at all skill levels and we will be very happy to teach you whatever you want to know

What does a typical club night look like?
  • It is a relaxed atmosphere - some want to run their trains, some want to chat for a while
  • On specific nights we may do an "operations evening" in people are involved in a version of 'model railroading' - delivering cars, picking up cars from specific industries on the layout
  • The layout is more or less "complete", but still undergoes various renovations and upgrades - so if you like doing modelling, building kits, scenery work etc, then let's chat about how we might upgrade specific sections of the layout

Where is the club located?
  • We are using space in the basement of the Trinity Village complex, but are not related to Trinity Village
  • We are centrally located in Kitchener Ontario within walking distance of Fairview Park Mall
  • It would take about 10 minutes to walk from the LRT terminal at Fairview Park Mall
  • We have had people who come from Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Paris/Brantford area, Hamilton, Dundas etc.
  • BTW, about 15 years ago the club was located in Preston (Cambridge) - hence the previous name - Preston Model Railway Society
